Wake Up!

Romans 13:11-14

“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”

Romans 13:11-14 NIV

This verse is a wake up call for everyone out there who calls themselves a Christian. Will the real Christians please wake up? This verse is a calling to all Christians to step up in their faith and let it mean more than just something you say you practice, something you say you do every Sunday morning for a measly hour, or something you say is a piece, just a tiny little insignificant piece of who you are. We need a wake up call as Christians. We need to step up and do the job we were meant to do. We let all these problems get in the way of serving God. We let our schedule make us too busy, so God cannot get a single meaningful minute of our time. We let our past make us seem like we’re too defiled, and God would never want anything to do with us because we are just too broken for Him. We let what we want to do

make us too distracted, because hanging out with our friends for four hours instead of three is so much more important than taking even five minutes to pick up our Bibles and read it. Why is it important for us to do so? Because Christ is coming back. Sooner than we think. Paul said it himself, the night is almost over. It’s dawn and there are so many people out there who know nothing about Christ, or probably never even heard who He is. It’s sad but true –even in America, a place that used to be known as a Christian country has people who never had a meaningful conversation about Jesus –ever. And here we are, either afraid to do anything about it, think we do not know the words to say, or just would rather be doing our own thing rather than serving God with all we have. So it’s time. It’s time to be all we can be in the Army of the Living God. No more excuses. It’s amazing that we can find excuse after excuse to not serve God, the most important aspect of our lives, but we never have to make an excuse for the things we desire most. We clear our

schedules for sports –whether we want to play them or watch them. We clear our schedules for schoolwork. We clear our schedule for our friends. We clear our schedules for our jobs. But when it comes to clearing up our schedules for God, there’s just always something that gets in the way and makes us not want to serve Him. So who’s ready to serve God with all your heart? The armor of light is here waiting for you… waiting for you to pick it up and put it on. To serve God with reckless abandon, to serve Him the way we need to be serving Him in these dark times, let’s grab our gear and go to war.
